Great French Wine Crisis
🍷 The French Wine Incident: A Cautionary Tale in Three Sips
It began, as all good stories do, with a glass of wine.
Back in the summer of 2019 (a simpler time, when the biggest thing crossing Ledra Street was a sunburnt tourist and not an existential wine debate), a group of cheerful French visitors entered our humble establishment.
They were polite. They were elegant. They were wearing linen.
They ordered wine. We poured generously. They sipped. And then it happened…
“Hmm … it’s not bad” said one.
“But it’s not French” said another.
The third simply raised an eyebrow and sighed in existential disappointment.
Thus began what we now refer to as The Great French Wine Crisis.
We tried everything.
We offered them Cypriot wine, Italian wine, wine from a man in the mountains who presses grapes with his own beard. Still, nothing was quite right. Eventually, one of them said:
“You know, it’s drinkable… for the region.”
Oof.
So, what did we do?
We didn’t cry. We didn’t throw the corkscrew.
We did what any sensible small business would do:
We implemented our “Don’t Tell Us You’re French” Policy.
It’s simple:
If you’re French, we welcome you with open arms—and closed ears.
Drink. Enjoy. Pretend it’s Burgundy.
Just please don’t tell us how much better it would be with a Bordeaux.
We’re fragile.
The Moral?
Life’s too short to argue over wine.
And frankly, if you're reading this, we suspect you have a sense of humour.
So here’s a toast to you—for taking a sip, scanning a code, and sharing a laugh.
Santé.
(P.S. If you are French and still reading, we love you. We’re just a bit traumatised.)
